Leading American designers and their most famous supporters flocked to New York's Lincoln Centre at the refurbished Alice Tully Hall last Monday for the biggest night in their fashion calendar: the CFDAs.
Among the fashion neophytes in the crowd. was designer Ralph Lauren, along with his wife Ricky Lauren, who was all smiles at the 2009 CFDA Awards. Ralph Lauren scooped the first ever Popular Vote Award for the first time. Special honors included Anna Sui for the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and Marc Jacobs for the International Award.
For the first time, the CFDA asked the public to cast votes online for their favorite designer. One of my favorite designer Ralph Lauren, the man behind the brand, Polo Ralph Lauren, was voted and has been awarded with the first-ever Council of Fashion Designers of America 2009 (CFDA) Popular Vote Award. Steven Kolb -the Executive Director of the CFDA, presented the Popular Vote Award to Ralph Lauren. Ralph Lauren is a winner and winning the CFDA popular vote is just another throphy in a lifetime career full of throphies.
In June 2007, the CFDA also awarded Lauren the first-ever American Fashion Legend Award. Lauren is the only designer to receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s four highest honors–the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award, the Menswear Designer of the Year Award, the Retailer of the Year Award–as well as the CFDA’s Humanitarian Leadership Award. 2009 Womenswear Designer of the Year: Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy2009 Menswear Designer of the Year (tie): Calvin Klein Collection’s Italo ZucchelliScott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders
